About PREA

Capital Campaign Research Fund

In 1991, PREA's Board of Directors designated that a fund be established to be used for future research and educational initiatives of importance to pension fund investment in real estate. Initially funded from excess revenue that was generated over the cost of operations for the Association, a capital campaign was initiated in 1998 to expand the research and educational programs supported by PREA. Through the generous contributions of PREA's Capital Campaign contributors, who are designated as Sustaining Members, this important effort has continued to thrive.

This strategy has yielded significant return not only to the PREA membership, but to the industry as a whole. Since 1991, we have committed over $1,000,000 to research and educational initiatives. Recent activities include:

  • Directed research project "An International Comparative Study of The Pension Plan Community and Real Estate Investments", directed by C.F. Sirmans and Elaine Worzala
  • Directed research project "How Investors Think about Real Estate: A Behavioral Finance Approach", conducted by Yale professor Will Goetzmann.
  • Plan sponsor-initiated research "Private Real Estate Fund Options in Defined Contribution Plans" by Joan Fallon.
  • Special real estate issues of the Journal of Portfolio Management
  • Continued sponsorship of industry initiatives such as Real Estate Information Standards and RERI
  • Annual scholarships and academic awards

We would like to thank our Sustaining Members for their generosity and support.
